Alter G Anti Gravity Treadmill
Clinic M based on the outskirts of Inverness was the first to bring the Alter G Treadmill to Inverness and the Highlands of Scotland. We are the only private facility to have this available to the public on a pay as you go basis. All sessions are initially accompanied by our Lead Physiotherapist, Dougal Sim. Dougal is an incredibly talented physiotherapist, who in the past has worked closely with the Orthopaedic Surgeons at Raigmore Hospital to bring the importance of ‘Prehab and Rehab’, for joint replacements to the City of Inverness. This state of the art piece of equipment is revolutionary in its ability to give our patient’s the workout they need, without all the fuss of getting in the pool; your clothes remain on! The Alter G lifts most of your weight off your joints and allows you to walk without pain and unaided; this is essential for muscle memory and learning how to walk correctly, moving your joints without causing any further damage.
The Alter G Anti-Gravity Treadmill uses air pressure to help unweight the patient, this allows the lower body to be enclosed and supported by air pressure…
Once the machine has calibrated to the individual, the body support percentage can be adjusted as desired. The machine will take up to 80% of your body weight, just like being in a swimming pool but without the water!
Used to help people with mobility problems. Evidenced to aid and speed recovery in people who have had recent hip or knee replacement surgery, injuries to the ankle or Achilles Tendon, stroke patients and general physical rehabilitation to encourage safe movements in a supported environment. You WILL NOT FALL.

What is an AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill®?
The AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill is a rehabilitation treadmill. It uses a lifting effect to reduce stress and impact on injuries and joints in the lower body. It is ideal for physical therapy after sports injuries, knee and hip replacement or stroke. It significantly enhances recovery, reduces the risk of re-injury and can be used for much more than just walking or running. It is also used to incorporate weight-bearing exercise into fitness and weight loss routines.
Does the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill® work?
The Anti-Gravity Treadmill was invented by NASA because astronauts on the International Space Station have to exercise for hours each day to combat the loss of bone mass and muscle in microgravity.
What is the benefit of the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill® ?
The anti gravity treadmill reduces the load on the body by regulating air in a pressure-controlled compartment.
The AlterG treadmill provides patients with a painless, controlled, low-weight bearing form of exercise in the early stages of recovery. Studies have shown that returning to motion as early as possible can help reduce muscle atrophy, decrease swelling, and improve patient results post-surgery or injury.
What is the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill® used to treat?
The AlterG® treadmill is a fantastic treatment option for a variety of patients, including:
- Following surgery on your ankle, knee or hip
- Older patients requiring strengthening and conditioning rehabilitation
- Gait training for neurological patients
- Patients unable to walk/run due to the pain of arthritis of the knee or hip
- Patients participating in a weight-loss program, or who are considering bariatric surgery
How can I benefit from using the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill® ?
You may benefit from sessions on the AlterG® treadmill if you experience pain or stiffness in your joints on weight bearing, need to build strength following an operation, or want to enhance your sports performance.
Cancer patients who are feeling fatigued after treatment may also find it beneficial as a way to rebuild muscle strength, thanks to the body weight reduction technology.
The AlterG® can also give a boost of confidence if you have a long-term condition that has prevented you from walking or running with ease.
How much does a session on the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill® cost?
Before booking a session on the AlterG® treadmill, you will need a full assessment and a supervised session priced from £75
An unsupervised session on the AlterG® costs from £1.00 per minute
