What is a Pelvic Ultrasound?

A pelvic ultrasound is a safe, painless imaging test that uses sound waves to create detailed pictures of the organs inside your pelvis. It helps healthcare professionals diagnose a wide range of conditions, including tumours, cysts, fibroids, pelvic pain, and abnormalities affecting the uterus, ovaries, bladder, prostate, or surrounding structures.

Ultrasounds can be performed:

• Trans-abdominally (across the skin of the lower abdomen) or
• Trans-vaginally (internally), allowing closer, clearer views of the pelvic structures

Other Endometriosis Screening with MRI:

Clinic M Medical is proud to introduce a new Endometriosis MRI Screening Service for women across Inverness, the Highlands and Islands. MRI is one of the most effective tools for detecting deep infiltrating endometriosis, adhesions and disease in areas that ultrasound may not fully visualise, making it an excellent starting point for women experiencing chronic pelvic pain, severe period pain, pain during sex, fertility issues or symptoms suggestive of endometriosis. Every patient will be assessed by our Consultant Gynaecologist, Dr Sheethal Madari, prior to referral to ensure MRI is clinically appropriate and tailored to their individual symptoms. This consultant-led approach ensures each scan is both necessary and optimised for accurate interpretation.
