LASER Hair Removal Inverness

Clinic M is the only clinic in Inverness and the Highlands offering both Alexandrite and Nd:YAG laser hair removalwithin the same treatment platform, allowing us to tailor wavelengths precisely for safer, more effective results across a wide range of skin tones and hair types. We’re also clear and honest about technology: we do not market IPL as laser hair removal, because IPL and true laser treatments work very differently—at Clinic M Inverness, we provide laser hair removal only.

We proudly use the world’s first and only “pain-free” Alexandrite laser hair removal platform: MOTUS by DEKA. This advanced 755nm Alexandrite system uses ultra-short pulse durations as low as 2ms, improving performance on challenging fine and fair hair while remaining highly effective on darker, coarser hair. The result is a superior treatment experience—fast, comfortable, and clinically precise—with consistently exceptional outcomes.

Why Choose Laser Hair Removal?

For many people, unwanted hair feels like a constant chore, with endless cycles of shaving or waxing that last only days or weeks. These methods often irritate the skin, inflame hair follicles, and lead to ingrown hairs, rashes, and discomfort. At Clinic M, laser hair removal is one of our most popular and transformative treatments because it offers long-term hair reduction with smoother, healthier skin.

Our clients consistently tell us it’s one of the best decisions they’ve made — no more worrying about holidays, bikini lines, or underarm hair. We are especially proud to support patients with PCOS, who often report increased comfort, confidence, and freedom after treatment.

Hair is, of course, a natural part of the human body — which is exactly why removing it effectively requires the right technology. Alexandrite (755nm) and Nd:YAG (1064nm) lasers are clinically proven, gold-standard treatments for permanent hair reduction, and at Clinic M we offer both, allowing us to treat a wide range of skin tones and hair types safely and effectively. When treatment protocols are followed correctly, results are consistently excellent.

Is Laser Hair Removal Effective?

Laser hair removal provides permanent hair reduction, not total lifelong elimination of every hair follicle. This is because normal hormonal fluctuations can stimulate some regrowth over time. That said — and this is important — medical-grade laser hair removal is exceptionally effective, producing a dramatic and lasting reduction in hair growth.

We are often asked about the difference between IPL and laser. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is not a laser and does not penetrate deeply enough to permanently destroy the hair follicle. For this reason, IPL results are superficial and short-lived. True laser hair removal targets the follicle precisely at the correct depth, making it far more reliable and effective long-term.

Traditionally, laser works best on darker hair and lighter skin. However, concerns such as hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation can arise in darker skin types if inappropriate technology is used. With the MOTUS AY platform, we can safely and effectively treat skin types I–VI, including fair hair and darker skin tones, with significantly reduced risk.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

Most clients require 8–10 sessions for optimal results. Facial areas are typically treated every 4 weeks, while body areas are treated every 8 weeks. Hair that has been repeatedly waxed or plucked may require additional sessions, as these methods disrupt natural hair growth cycles.

During treatment, shaving is the only permitted method of hair removal. The laser must be able to detect the hair within the follicle to work effectively. Timing is crucial — missed or delayed appointments can significantly impact results. Hormonal factors such as PCOS, natural hormonal cycles, or gender-affirming HRT may influence treatment frequency, but these factors are well understood and carefully managed by our experienced practitioners.

Can Everyone Have Laser Hair Removal?

There are certain contraindications to laser treatment. Recent sun exposure, real or fake tan can increase the risk of superficial burns and pigment changes. Tanned skin absorbs laser energy differently, increasing the risk of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation. If the laser cannot distinguish between pigment in the hair and pigment in the skin, both may be affected.

For best results and safety, skin should be free from sun exposure and tanning products. Missing sessions due to tanning can delay treatment progress and may result in additional sessions being required.

When Is the Best Time to Start Laser Hair Removal?

The winter months are ideal for starting laser hair removal, allowing you to complete treatments in time for summer while avoiding sun exposure. Skin is easier to protect and recovery is smoother during cooler months.

That said, pubic and intimate area laser hair removal can be done year-round, with added benefits including reduced ingrown hairs, folliculitis, and support in managing conditions such as hidradenitis suppurativa (HS).

Test Patch (Patch Testing) Before Laser Hair Removal?

For safety and optimal results, we may recommend a test patch before starting your laser hair removal course—especially if you have darker skin, sensitive or reactive skin, a history of pigmentation, or you’re treating a new area for the first time. A small section is treated using carefully selected settings, then we review the skin response over the following 24–72 hours (and sometimes up to a week for pigmentation-prone skin). This allows us to confirm comfort, ensure there is no adverse reaction, and fine-tune the most effective parameters for your skin and hair type—so your treatment plan is both safe and results-driven from the very beginning.

Medical Conditions helped by LASER Hair Removal:

Laser hair removal can be particularly beneficial for clients who experience medical or hormone-related skin concerns linked to unwanted hair growth. Conditions such as folliculitis, recurrent ingrown hairs, and acne breakouts can be aggravated by shaving and waxing, often leading to inflammation, irritation, and scarring. For patients with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), reducing hair growth in affected areas can help decrease follicular blockage and minimise flare-ups as part of a wider management plan. We also regularly support clients with PCOS, where hormonal imbalance can cause increased facial or body hair growth (hirsutism), often impacting confidence and wellbeing. By targeting the follicle at its root, medical-grade laser hair removal can significantly reduce hair growth while improving overall skin comfort and long-term condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do men have hair removal?

Yes, they do for the following 9 reasons..

Razor bumps: Some men struggle with the issue of red bumps and itching, known as “folliculitis, after shaving. Bacteria that normally live on the skin’s surface migrate into the hair follicle during the shaving process. The bacteria cause inflammation, unsightly red bumps and itching.

Tired of time spent shaving and waxing: The biggest and most obvious reason men choose laser hair removal is the freedom to never shave or wax again. Shaving and waxing can be incredibly time consuming. The added convenience is especially important for men who have hair in difficult to reach places such as their back.

Athletic lifestyle. Body builders, cyclists, and swimmers are all known to perform grooming methods before a race or competition. Frequently shaving can be very time consuming prior to important events, making laser hair removal an excellent option for those wanting an edge up on the competition.

Less embarrassing than salon waxing: Some men feel uncomfortable in female dominated beauty salons. Fortunately, laser hair removal is performed in a clinic setting, saving men the embarrassment of visiting the salon for waxing appointments.

They want thinner hair: Some men simply want thinner, finer hairs rather than total hair removal. Using laser hair removal, we can weaken the hair follicles to thin out the hair without removing it completely. Men with thick hair on their backs, chests or arms can benefit from LHR to help remove some but not all of the hair per their preferences. This allows men to enjoy a masuline appearance while keeping more intense hair growth under control.

Ingrown hairs: For some men, unpleasant and unsightly ingrown hairs are a major problem. Ingrown hairs not only have a red and inflamed appearance but may be painful as well. Ingrown hairs will gradually be cured with laser hair removal treatment due to the decrease in hair follicles.

Tattoos: Men who have tattoos typically want to show them off and significant body hair is an impediment to this. Laser hair removal is an excellent option for men pursuing tattoos because the procedure permanently removes the need for shaving and waxing in the area of the desired tattoo. It is important to note that laser hair removal cannot be performed over an existing tattoo but in an area prior to tattoo application.

Muscle definition: Many men struggle with significant chest, abdominal, and back hair. Unfortunately efforts in the gym are minimized by an abundance of hair in these areas. For men that prioritize displaying their results from exercising, laser hair removal is an excellent option to show off their physique.

Significant Others: Some men are not significantly bothered by their hair but instead their partners do not like excessive hair. Partner satisfaction has led many men to pursue laser hair removal as a more permanent option for personal maintenance.

Why is MOTUS AY the best LASER for Removing Hair?

MOTUS AY is considered one of the best laser systems for hair removal because it combines gold-standard Alexandrite 755nm technology with an advanced delivery method designed to make treatments more comfortable, safer, and highly effective. Unlike traditional Alexandrite lasers that can feel sharp or painful, MOTUS AY uses a unique Moveo® technology which gradually heats the follicle through repeated passes, allowing high energy delivery with significantly reduced discomfort — often described as pain-free laser hair removal.

It also offers ultra-short pulse durations (as low as 2ms), improving effectiveness on stubborn and finer hair, including challenging fair hair that many devices struggle to treat. The result is faster sessions, excellent long-term hair reduction, and a superior patient experience, with consistent results across a wide range of treatment areas. When performed correctly, MOTUS AY delivers the perfect balance of power, precision, comfort, and clinical reliability, making it one of the most advanced Alexandrite laser platforms available worldwide.

Is there anywhere on the body that cannot be treated for Hair Removal?

In general, almost all areas of the body can be treated with laser hair removal when performed by experienced, medically trained practitioners using the correct technology. Commonly treated areas include the face, neck, underarms, arms, legs, chest, back, abdomen, bikini and intimate areas, as well as more delicate zones such as the upper lip, chin, and between the eyebrows.

There are, however, a few areas where laser hair removal is not appropriate. We do not treat directly over the eyes or eyelids due to safety risks, and we avoid areas with active infection, open wounds, severe inflammation, or suspicious skin lesions. Hair growing from inside the nostrils or ear canals is also not suitable for laser treatment. In addition, areas with dense tattoo pigment cannot be treated, as the laser targets pigment and could damage the skin.

At Clinic M, every client undergoes a full consultation and skin assessment to ensure each area is safe, suitable, and treated appropriately, with adjustments made where necessary to protect skin health while achieving the best possible results.

Do you treat Transgender Clients?

Absolutely we do. We have several clients that are very happy with the results.

Why are LASERS found to be effective in Hidradenitis Suppurativa?

Lasers are found to be effective in Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) because HS is strongly linked to follicular blockage and inflammation within the hair follicle unit. In many patients, the condition begins when the follicle becomes obstructed, leading to rupture, inflammation, bacterial overgrowth, and the formation of painful nodules, abscesses, and sinus tracts.

Medical-grade laser hair removal, particularly using Nd:YAG and Alexandrite technology, reduces or destroys the hair follicle, which in turn reduces the number of follicles available to become blocked and inflamed. By decreasing hair density and follicular activity, laser treatment can help reduce recurrent flare-ups, ingrown hairs, and secondary infection, and may improve overall skin texture and scarring over time.

Laser treatment is not a cure for HS, but it can be a highly effective part of a long-term management plan, especially for HS affecting the underarms, groin, bikini, and buttock areas where friction and follicle inflammation are common.

Is the Hair Removal Permanent or will I need a top up session?

Laser hair removal provides permanent hair reduction, not complete lifelong elimination of every hair follicle. The treated follicles are effectively destroyed and will not regrow hair; however, new follicles can be activated over time due to natural hormonal changes such as puberty, menopause, PCOS, pregnancy, or hormone replacement therapy.

For this reason, most clients achieve a long-lasting, significant reduction in hair growth after completing a full course of treatments, with hair becoming much finer, lighter, and slower to regrow. Some people choose to have occasional top-up or maintenance sessions, often once or twice a year, to manage any minimal regrowth and maintain optimal results. This approach ensures consistently smooth skin and long-term satisfaction.

Do I need the full package again or supplemental sessions?

In most cases, you will not need to repeat the full treatment package once your initial course is complete. The majority of hair follicles targeted during your treatment are permanently disabled, resulting in long-term hair reduction.

However, because hair growth can be influenced by hormonal changes, life stages, or medical conditions such as PCOS, some clients may experience minor regrowth over time. When this happens, supplemental or maintenance sessions are usually all that’s required to keep results optimal. These sessions are tailored to your individual needs and are far less frequent than the initial course.

During your review appointments, your practitioner will assess your progress and advise whether a small number of top-up treatments or a new course is appropriate, ensuring you only ever receive the treatment you genuinely need.
